The Boy is Back ... but in the 616

Marvel Boy(Norr-Var) has return to the pages of Marvel, but this time he's ripping up the pages of Young Avengers/Runaways Civil War mini. If you know nothing about Marvel Boy, here's some info to help you out.

Capt. Marvel goes on Trial.

Trials of Shazam came out, which has been slated as a reboot of the character and the mythos of the Marvel family. I'm a fan of Judd Winick's work for the most part. I enjoy his stories, his balance of plot and action, and the fact that his comics aren't trying to re-invent the industry. I like this, it's refreshing and enjoyable. This is what Trials of Shazam looks like it will be. I've read from interviews that his goal is to update the character for today, but the first issues suggest that this isn't going to be some drastic change (Superman blue anyone?). I enjoyed the first issue, it's fun, and I'm looking forward to the rest.

Who's going to die in Civil War?

So far, Marvel's Civil War isn't anywhere near the body count as the American Civil War, so I ask you, who is next to die?

Someone is going to bite the dust sooner or later, tell us your thoughts.

Me, I got two words for ya: Mary Jane.

X-men: First Class Preview

The guys at IGN have the first 5 pages of X-men: First Class.

I'm interested in the idea, sounds found. Plus, I'm an X-men slut, it's hard for me not to read an X-men book. I try, I honestly do!

Justice League of America TRICK

First off, don't read this if you haven't read Justice League of America #1.

It's a bit of a spoiler. But interesting either way!

----------------------------------------SPOILER---------------------------------
This HERE is a better explanation than what I typed up earlier. The big thing to note is the Green Arrow, Roy Harper switch. Watch this thread, hopefully someone will post comparison images. If not, I'm sure Wizard will.

Astonishing X-men...oh hell yes

I am so happy that Joss Whedon is doing this book. This is what the X-men should be, every momemt of every day. How do I begin to talk about this book without ruining anything. A daunting task I must say.

1) Kitty Pryde is awesome. We all know Joss loves his strong females, and boy does it show. She must go through 8 different emotions during this issue, from strategy, to pissed, to confused, to concerned, and beyond.

2) Wolvie is a danty child. We got a small taste of this back Quentin Quire put the whammy on him, but Joss takes it to a whole new level. Whedon really seems to have a love for Morrison's run, using characters and events from New X-men. To bad he can't fix Xorn, to bad no one can.

3) Still room for some funnies. Joss has a great talent for balancing some classic humor with the chaos and tension that's going on. He's so fun to read.

I wish his run would never end.

p.s. The art is amazing. :)

A Mix of BOOM and yawn - August 16

The BOOM:

Booster Gold (52 - #15)
Clay One-Eyed Laser monster things (Nextwave - #7)

The yawn:

Ghost Rider #2 (makes me want to cry)
Nightwing since Crisis (way to fail hard)

Nextwave was by far the best book I got this week, I didn't get many. I've got Ion and Boys waiting for me at the Comic Book shope, I got them late.

I also got Civil War: X-men, which is ok. I like seeing the original 5, minus a very dead Jean, teaming up. I'm really just interested to see where will stand after the events of Civil War. I really don't get how Bishop is pro-registration, it makes no sense to me, and his explanation in the book was also dumb. I also want that jerk with the squid stomach to get popped in the head. To bad he didn't get depowered. Oh, and Caliban, kill him too.

They really missed out on getting rid of the worst Mutants out there. I mean, who really said that Blob should be depowered and Caliban shouldn't. I mean really, does anyone like Caliban?

If you like Caliban, please send me 1 good reason why.

Better Civil War be late than your Girlfriend.

We're all sad, upset, angry, or down right violent about the month delay to Civil War and all the tie-in issues. I've decided, since Civil War is one of the coolest things to happen to Marvel since the Sentry hoax, to be cool and not cry. I like McNiven and Millar a lot, and think their stuff is great, so I'm letting them off the hook. Now if it was Liefeld, I wouldn't be so forgiving. Then again, I wouldn't buy his crap anyways, he can't draw.

Aug-10, a short list

I only got a few comics this week, I was getting so little that I had to add more. Here's a quick run down.

DC
52 #14- Still interesting, I like it as a whole.

Green Arrow #65- I like it. I've read negative things about it, but I think it's interesting how Widnick mixes the fact that Ollie is a total liberal with todays politics. No recommended for strict Republicans.

Civil War: Frontlines #5- I read it, some stories are better than others. It's cool but nothing to go crazy about.

Annihilation #1 - I really like this, I think it's going to be a really fun space war for Marvel. I usually hate Marvel space stuff, but this may change my mind. I really enjoyed Nova, and he's at the center of things here so I expect good things.

Incredible Hulk #97 - This entire story arc is brilliant. Keep Hulk off earth for another year if it's this good. I love it!

X3 to DVD

Marvel announced how much money they expect us to shell out soon for X3 the Last Stand on DVD. There is a normal version, with all kinds of goodies (like an alternate ending!), a Deluxe uber special fantastic edition with an original comic written by Stan "The Man" Lee, his first in 5 years (awesome). And of course, they'll be releasing a trilogy box set, duh.

I'm hoping to get both Ultimate Avengers movies soon, so I'll let you know how I feel about them. I'm excited, hope I'm not let down.

Who's side are you on

I've seen recently that the new fad for message boards is to do your own take on the "Who's side are you on" gimmick. I saw a nice one with Cap getting his lights punched out. Here is mine, probably not a shocker. Obey.
